Ordinal numerals

Ordinal numbers are used when you tell about the order. For example, about the position in a queue, or when talking about house numbers.

Ordinal numerals behave as adjectives with definite endings -ais and -ā. It means that they decline correspondingly.

For compound numerals, only the last word takes the definite ending and is declined. The other words keep the form of cardinal numerals.

When ordinal numbers are spelt using Arabic digits, they are followed by a dot.

1. stāvs
First floor
15. dzīvoklis
15th flat
13. janvāra iela
The Street of the 13th January

Notice that you can often see that the space between the number and the next word is omitted, e.g.: 5.stāvs.
